ESFSJU

Increasing moisture and instability from a nearby trough will
maintain the potential for heavy showers and thunderstorms through
the end of the workweek.

Since rains have been abundant in the last couple of days in Puerto
Rico, soils are saturated and rivers are running high. Therefore,
there is an elevated to significant threat of flooding for most of
the area. Showers will again develop today, but the activity is
expected to be even more widespread on Wednesday and Thursday.
Additionally, winds are light, so any rain that develops will be
long-lasting.

The areas of highest risk are the interior, north, west and portions
of eastern Puerto Rico, where rainfall accumulations are expected to
be from 2 to 4 inches each day, with isolated higher amounts.
Coastal sectors, Vieques, Culebra, and the Virgin Islands are
expected to see occasional showers and thunderstorms as well.

The main threats are urban and river flooding, and isolated flash
flooding too. Mudslides in areas of steep terrain are expected too.

Conditions will gradually improve by the weekend, but showers and
thunderstorms will still develop each afternoon mostly for the
interior and west of Puerto Rico.
